Sometimes gratitude can flow from your heart without a whole lot of effort on your part, and sometimes it’s a choice you have to make each and every moment.
Sometimes a smile spreads across your face in a reaction to some sort of joy, and sometimes you have to choose to let yourself smile rather than give into the tension that’s building within.
Sometimes words of encouragement spill out to everyone around you, and sometimes you have to deliberately pause long enough to give them as a precious gift, to another person.
I’m not even sure how it can happen, but suddenly your week can feel like a landslide of emotion, and you’re facing struggles that you hadn’t even seen coming your way. But when the tension is thick around you, there’s a secret to cutting through the chaos and the stress. It’s found when you and I make the right choice in the littlest ways.
Choices like building another up, and speaking the truth to yourself once again.
Choices like being a team player rather than a quitter, and the choice to be a part of the answer instead of an added weight to another’s load.
Let's all take a pause and ask ourselves- what’s going to guide me and move me forward through the next day? What’s going to determine who I think I am and how I’ll behave for today?
If I leave the answers to my emotions than I’ll forever be loosing my way.
It takes great courage and strength to be directed by something other than how we're feeling in the moment.
It takes the power of a living God dwelling inside of us and a yielded heart to the way that He chooses. This is the secret to overcoming today.
Looking up, and letting go, and breaking down so His love can then break through.
It breaks through you and erases all threats of bitterness, and it breaks through the hearts of every single one around you as you and I faithfully pour it out.
My Christian walk will never be able to run on automatic. There’s grace, yes, a whole heaping load of it, but you and I will have to make the hard little choices in order to fully embrace every bit of it.
This way is the harder way. But it’s also the overwhelming, fullest way to live fully loved and to love another well.
